Assembly approves aquatic center sewer repair and clearwell design contracts; EPA grant cited for water project

Parks and Recreation requested an award for the Petersburg Aquatic Center sewer repair to Ketchikan Mechanical Inc., the sole bidder, in an amount not to exceed $1,148,548.21. The assembly moved, seconded and approved the award by roll call.
On the water side, Assistant Director of Public Works Tom Rubble explained the clearwell replacement as part of a long-delayed phase-3 rebuild. Rubble said the borough "received a grant from the EPA community grants of $1,600,000," and that the present request is to retain the original engineer to update plans and provide technical support. He described the requested authorization as not to exceed $200,600 and said it would secure the engineering firm from approval through project completion. The assembly voted unanimously to award Clearwater Tank Improvement Project design and technical services to GV Jones and Associates Inc.
Next steps: Public Works will execute the design contract, provide updated pricing and a timeline to the assembly, and proceed toward construction funding and permitting.
