Board approves minutes, personnel actions and several routine items; sets next meeting
Summary

During routine business the board approved the minutes from its July meeting, authorized payables and approved a range of personnel and contract actions. The clerk read a set of resignations and retirements that the board accepted by motion and roll call, and the board ratified hires including teachers and bus drivers from closed session.
The board approved an MOU with the local university system to allow juniors/seniors to earn credit and a scholarship pathway (pending approval by the Virginia Department of Education), accepted the only bid for a food-safety/co-op purchase for nutrition services, and approved additional funding for lights at Twin Valley Elementary and Hurley High after bids exceeded the board’s earlier $30,000 authorization.
On athletics funding, the board approved a motion for the school system to pay insurance to the Virginia High School League for participating schools, a move proponents said would standardize coverage across the district.
Personnel approvals included experience-credit grants for new hires and issuance of 12-month contracts where specified. The board set its next regular meeting for Tuesday the 17th at 5:30 p.m. and then adjourned.
