Summary
Greg Scott of the Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County said the county’s $25,000 annual investment helped the chamber connect 280 job seekers, generate 120 interviews and result in 75 job placements, and outlined Sensor Valley and air‑service efforts to grow the local economy.
Greg Scott, executive director of the Chamber of Business and Industry of Centre County (CBICC), used a presentation before the commissioners to describe how the county’s $25,000 annual investment in the chamber supports workforce development, small businesses and regional economic initiatives.
Scott told the board the chamber connected 280 job seekers at a spring job fair, generated about 120 interviews and recorded 75 job placements. He said the chamber deployed roughly $700,000 in capital through a revolving loan fund and supported 60 entrepreneurs and early‑stage businesses through a concierge partnership.
Scott highlighted a multi‑year Sensor Valley initiative to build a sensor‑technology industry cluster, noting the chamber is pursuing federal funding sources including the U.S. Economic Development Administration. He also described a “leakage” demand study the chamber has used in conversations with airlines and said the group is actively engaging carriers about new destinations, including interest in service to Charlotte and potentially restoring a Detroit flight.
Commissioners thanked Scott for the presentation and discussed the importance of housing and air service to workforce recruitment. No formal action was taken on the presentation; commissioners asked staff to continue coordination with the chamber and noted the job fair scheduled for April 23.
