The Mansfield Park Facilities Development Corporation on Aug. 21 approved a revision to its athletic field use and allocation policy that requires groups to pay 50% of season fees at the start of the season and establishes a long-term practice-reservation option with a $350 deposit.
Mister Bryant (Speaker 6), who presented the item, said most edits to the policy were clarifying language and that the two substantive changes were intended to streamline billing and accommodate teams that need recurring practice fields. "When this policy begins, we will now require 50% of their fees to be paid, when they start," Bryant said. He also described a plan to allow groups to reserve practice fields two days a week for the season in exchange for a $350 deposit.
Board members asked clarifying questions about definitions — in particular whether the policy should replace the term "select" with "competitive" or "travel" — and staff agreed to refine the definitions for clarity. Jessica (Speaker 5) moved to accept the policy terms and Lindsay (Speaker 2) seconded; the motion passed 7–0.
Why it matters: the changes affect how leagues and community groups reserve and pay for field time and could alter cash flow and availability for both competitive and recreational users. Staff said the deposit and upfront-payment rules aim to reduce no-shows and better schedule high-demand fields.
What’s next: staff will finalize definitions in the policy language and implement new payment procedures; the board did not amend the adopted terms on the floor.
