County manager Mary Ellen Harper asked the board to award ITB 2025026 for Courthouse Renovation Phase 1 to Gainesville Commercial Contractors Inc. for $406,869. A county representative described the scope as creating closer handicap parking, installing a ramp to the front entrance and remodeling portions of the lobby and smaller courtrooms. One commissioner clarified that the funding for the work comes from courthouse facility funds that the courts have saved, not directly from the county's general fund.
Separately, staff presented Change Order Proposal No. 2 from Ping Construction for $7,132.40 to pour a new 4-inch concrete slab to replace asphalt areas in front of the government center entrance and provide handicapped parking and access. Commissioners discussed timing and finishing touches; the change order was approved by motion and voice vote.
Both the contract award and change order were approved by motion. Staff said final construction schedules depend on contractor availability and completion of remaining finishing work and handrails, which are expected in the coming weeks.
