The Levy County Board of County Commissioners declared a local state of emergency and imposed a countywide burn ban at a special meeting on Feb. 12, 2026, saying drought indicators and low humidity have heightened wildfire risk.
County Manager Mary Ellen Harper read Resolution No. 2026-5, which states the emergency is “due to drought conditions” and imposes a ban on outdoor burning countywide, including yard waste, bonfires, campfires, outdoor fireplaces and fireworks. Harper told the board the declaration is effective immediately upon adoption and will remain in effect for seven days; it may be extended in seven-day increments by proclamation of the chair or vice chair and later ratified at a regular meeting.
