Levy County OKs direction to declare Elkins Boat Ramp surplus and donate it to Inglis

The Levy County Board of County Commissioners voted to direct staff to prepare a resolution to declare the Elkins Boat Ramp in Inglis surplus and to donate the property to the town.
Commissioner Desiree Mills introduced the item and said the ramp, located at the end of Elkins Drive near Brooks City Seafood, is the only ramp in Inglis and that the town had expressed willingness to take it over and manage parking. Mills said she and staff had reviewed the matter and that the town can "govern it how they need to." (Desiree Mills)
County staff explained the disposition process as two steps: if the board votes to surplus the property at this meeting, staff will return at a future meeting with a formal resolution to complete the disposition. Commissioners noted that lack of parking historically contributed to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission relinquishing interest in the site in the past; the county has a letter from FWC indicating the property is available for transfer.
A motion to give staff direction to pursue the surplus and donation was made, seconded and carried by voice vote. Commissioners asked staff to include any caveats or conditions the board deems necessary in the forthcoming resolution.
The board did not adopt the final disposition at the meeting; staff will return with a resolution and any recommended conditions for transfer and management by the town of Inglis.
