Levy County declares surplus space, moves to lease with CareerSource and amend Williston lease to bring tourism in-house

Levy County commissioners voted to declare 930 square feet of office space at 375 Garner Street, Suite D, surplus and directed the county manager to negotiate a one-year lease with CareerSource for training and staff services.
Mary Ellen Harper, the county's lead accounting manager, told the board the request was necessary to secure tenant interest and that CareerSource had offered to provide training valued at about $10,000 a year, contribute to maintenance and utilities and generally make better use of underoccupied space. "They're requesting a one year lease," Harper said; she proposed returning at the next meeting with the contract terms and a resolution.
In a related action, commissioners approved an amendment to the county's commercial-office lease with the City of Williston to move the economic development and tourism staff to county campus offices, which Harper said would save about $5,000 a year in utilities. Commissioners framed both votes as steps to better utilize county facilities and reduce ongoing utility costs for unoccupied space.
Both motions passed by voice vote.
