Council approves small change to single‑family carport dimensions in zoning code

Carrollton City Council unanimously approved a text amendment Aug. 5 to the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance allowing larger single‑family carports. Planning staff proposed increasing the maximum carport dimension from 24×24 feet to 24×32 feet and giving the Board of Adjustment authority to approve larger carports when appropriate.
Lawrence Shapiro (planning staff) told council the earlier 24×24 standard had not anticipated larger three‑car wide home designs and had led to variance requests. The amendment is intended to allow carports to terminate at the width of the house while preserving review authority for exceptional requests. Council moved and seconded the item and approved it without public comment.
