On the consent agenda, the board approved a task order for repairs and repaving of the Parkside High School tennis courts (approximate bid cost $192,000) and a contract for HVAC equipment at Fruitland Intermediate under the Omnia contract (projected about $119,000). The consent slate passed by voice vote.
Action item 5.1 — two policies (a graduation policy and a student member of the board policy) — was taken up and approved by roll call. The board conducted a roll-call on the action item; the Chair announced the motion carried after members recorded 'aye' votes during the roll call.
During the policy-review portion of the work session, staff reviewed a full slate of policies carried over from January and recommended moving the remaining items for formal approval at the March 10 meeting. Items discussed for March included a mission/vision/strategic planning policy, a legal entity name policy, assessments policy updates, evening high-school attendance, student code of conduct formatting updates, media relations, service-animal guidance, and employment references. Staff noted one new required immigration policy resulting from recent legislation will be included in a future slate.
A board member asked how to change a recorded vote; staff advised the proper mechanism would be to move to rescind the prior action and bring it back for action at a subsequent meeting. The board adjourned after routine closing remarks.
