Public forum spotlights drainage problems, DCF removal video and questions about local allegations

"You can't do an accurate model if you don't use accurate rainfall data," he said.
Pauline Grimes asked the county to address a neighborhood pond and drainage system she said recently sent water over a road for the first time in 42 years, and asked that crews revisit the site.
Lynn Cross alerted commissioners to a body‑cam video she said shows Department of Children and Families agents removing a child from a parent in Navarre over a medical‑treatment disagreement; she said a parental‑rights removal hearing in the county is scheduled and asked the board to review the case. "It's very hard for anybody to watch it as a parent and not feel sick to their stomach," Cross said.
Jerry Cooey and Sherry Chapman raised civic‑tone concerns after earlier public remarks drew a sheriff's response; Cooey asked a commissioner to 'clear the air' about reported conversations, and Chapman asked the county to assess whether political influences had affected local handling of cases and recommended verifying claims on a local podcast.
The chair closed public forum after the scheduled speakers and the board moved on to agenda items; staff did not provide substantive responses to all public requests during the Jan. 20 meeting.
