Council accepts $78,000 CDBG allocation to update senior lounge at rec center

Springdale City Council on Dec. 4 adopted Ordinance 60-2024 to accept a $78,000 subrecipient award through Hamilton County's 2024–2026 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The ordinance authorizes the mayor and city administrator to execute the subrecipient grant agreement and related documents with the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners.
Mayor Hawkins told council the funds are earmarked for improvements in the senior lounge at the city recreation center, specifically updating dated furniture and making other improvements to the space. "Several seniors have told me already that they're excited for the changes and looking forward to seeing what the new facelift will be for their room," the mayor said.
Council moved to adopt the ordinance at second reading and approved it by roll call (7–0). The ordinance cites federal CDBG funding administered by HUD and the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 in the recitals.
Implementation: the mayor and city administrator are authorized to sign the subrecipient agreement and execute documents necessary to accept the grant; an exhibit containing the agreement was incorporated by reference in the ordinance.
