The Sumter County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously on Feb. 10 to set a public hearing on March 10, 2026, at 6 p.m. at the Everglades Regional Recreation Center to consider renewal of the county's fifth-and-sixth-cent fuel (gas) tax.
Staff said the revenue from the renewal is a key source for road maintenance and estimated it brings in about $2,000,000 per year. The chair moved to set the hearing, which was seconded and carried by voice vote with no opposition.
The hearing will give residents an opportunity to comment before the board considers final action on the resolution to renew the tax.
