Votes at a glance: Board approves bundled academic, administrative and summer resolutions; bylaw amendment delayed to 2026
Summary
On July 31 the Rochester Board approved academic resolutions 3–70 and administrative resolutions 71–99 (with recorded opposition on select items), approved summer school resolutions 100–101, amended policy 2300 to delay parent/student advisers until Jan. 1, 2026, and carried additional administrative motions.
The Rochester Board of Education handled a large slate of resolutions at its July 31 business meeting.
- Academic resolutions 3–70: The board moved to consider the academic slate as a block and approved resolutions 3–70; Commissioner Santiago announced a planned no vote on resolution 3 (a partnership with the police department) and the clerk recorded two 'no' votes for that resolution. Specific items in the bundle included curriculum, summer programs and supplemental pay authorizations.
- Administrative support resolutions 71–99: Approved. Commissioner Santiago recorded a 'nay' on resolution 92.
- Summer school resolutions 100–101: Approved; Commissioner Elliott recorded a no on one summer resolution and questioned why late summer approvals occurred. Clerk Wynne said many items were deferred from June to avoid congestion and that the start dates for these programs are after July 31.
- Bylaws (policy 2300) / resolution 103: The board amended the date for parent and student advisers to begin participation in work sessions; the board set the effective date to Jan. 1, 2026 and approved resolution 103 as amended after debate about safety and readiness for inclusion.
- Other business: The board waived the 48‑hour submission rule for resolutions 106 and 107 and approved funding for an independent monitor (resolution 106). The board approved a tentative one‑year extension for the RTA agreement (resolution 107) by roll call.
Several votes were conducted by voice or roll call; where the clerk recorded specific minority votes, they are noted above. Remaining unfinished business will continue at the next board meeting on Aug. 12.
