The board approved a donation of $1,785.70 from Eastern New Mexico University to the Laguna Acoma DECA program.
Vanessa Fernando, the DECA advisor at Laguna High School, described DECA as a career‑technical student organization that supports students in entrepreneurship, marketing and hospitality and said last year 18 students qualified for competition and this year 15 qualified. "DECA helps students with careers in entrepreneurship, finance, marketing, advertisement, hospitality, tourism, and even management," Fernando said, noting students take lengthy certification tests and attend conferences and competitions.
Superintendent Weidner recommended the board accept the donation; Mister Jaramillo moved to approve and Doctor Archambault seconded. The board approved the donation by roll‑call vote.
Fernando told the board the funds and CTSO support help students travel to conferences and participate in leadership activities. The board recorded no amendments or conditions on the gift.
