State awards fund HVAC, lighting and demolitions; district to seek designers and abatement bids

Mister Triplehorn briefed the board that the Public School Capital Outlay process (PSCOC/PSFA) awarded the district funding for several projects, including replacement of the heating and cooling system at Grants High School and a lighting retrofit, and 100% state funding for demolition and abatement of the old central office and PLC building.
"We applied for a systems‑based award for replacement of the heating and cooling system at Grant's High School, as well as a lighting upgrade for the entire building," Mister Triplehorn said. He added that the demolition awards are fully state funded, while the GHS project will require a 24% local match.
Triplehorn explained the next steps: execute PSFA paperwork and issue an RFP for a design professional for the GHS HVAC project, run a 30‑day RFP period, and then return to PSFA for construction funding awards. He noted the HVAC replacement will be design‑heavy because the project will convert from a water‑based system to a refrigerated loop or heat‑pump system and that temporary operations will need careful coordination during construction.
Board members asked about building composition and asbestos abatement for the lift‑out of the old PLC and central office. Triplehorn said the abatement scope will be part of the demolition RFP and that the district already has asbestos reports to guide remediation bids.
The board received the briefing and did not take immediate action; staff said they will prepare RFP templates, identify potential design professionals and return with a procurement timeline.
