Polk County supervisors approve array of routine resolutions, update health-clinic fees and appoint new HR director
Summary
The Polk County Board approved grouped resolutions covering public-works contracts, tax-suspensions, event licensing and workforce agreements, adopted an update to health-department clinical fees, and confirmed appointments including Josie Lewis as the county’s new HR director starting Oct. 7.
At its regular meeting, the Polk County Board of Supervisors approved a block of routine resolutions and handled appointments and administrative items on the consent agenda.
A grouped motion advanced a number of resolutions on the consent calendar: items ranged from a public-notice for a drainage-easement vacation; an agreement with Caliber Concrete for a Public Works sidewalk project; fiscal sponsorship with the Great Outdoors Foundation for conservation acceleration projects; and final plat and inspection agreements for private development projects. The grouped motions carried on roll-call votes.
Resolutions 18–22 included suspending taxes and special assessments for named addresses and an amended agreement with Iowa Health and Human Services to provide additional commodity supplemental food program funding. The board clarified that the HHS commodity funding approval was on an as-needed basis before approving the grouped motion.
Notably, Resolution No. 23 updated services and fees for clinical services at the Polk County Health Department; the board approved the fee update on roll call.
The board also approved labor-relations contracting with the Iowa Public Employment Labor Relations Association (Resolution No. 24), a set of assessor recommendations involving homestead and military exemptions (Resolutions Nos. 25–29), and a civil litigation settlement (Resolution No. 30). Additional approvals included workforce-development services agreements, capital-budget requests for the Iowa Event Center, park leases, and community grant and sponsorship awards.
During appointments, the board moved and approved an appointments list. The chair introduced Josie Lewis, who is set to begin as Polk County HR director on Oct. 7; the board welcomed her and approved the appointment on the consent calendar.
Ending: Most items were adopted as consent with roll-call approval; staff will carry out the contractual and administrative follow-ups for the approved resolutions and appointments.
