Wabasha County board approves agenda and consent package, appoints planning commissioner and moves to closed session over salary appeal

During planning and zoning business, staff reported a vacancy on the Wabasha County Planning Commission and identified Tom Brown as a potential appointee; the board voted to appoint him with his start listed for the February planning commission meeting. Staff also noted two openings on the Board of Adjustment and warned that without those positions filled a two-to-one vote on that body would result in a denial because a 2-1 vote would not meet the legal sufficiency for action.
Later in the meeting Administrator asked the board to pass Resolution 2026-027 to enter a closed session with the county's outside counsel and Gehring pursuant to Minnesota Statute 13D.05 to discuss the process and potential settlement options for an elected official's salary appeal. "I'm asking the board to pass Resolution 2026-027 to go into a closed session with the county's outside counsel and Gehring," the Administrator said. The board voted by voice and entered closed session.
No roll-call vote tallies with member-by-member votes were recorded in the transcript for these items; the minutes show voice approval. The planning commission appointment was announced as not taking effect until the February planning commission meeting.
