The commission unanimously approved a Health Equipment Policy to permit walking stations, treadmill pads and similar health equipment in county workplaces.
Human Resources staff described a pilot in the communications/dispatch center where an employee used a walking station daily. The policy requires an employee signoff, safety considerations and noise controls to avoid disrupting coworkers. Staff said they modeled the policy on another county’s approach with risk-pool and MMA input.
Commissioners asked deployment questions and requested a later report on usage; staff said a grant would support roughly 50% of equipment costs and that equipment is mobile and storable when not in use. The policy passed with a recorded vote of 3 in favor, none opposed.
The commission asked staff to report back after staff usage data are collected to guide future purchases and placements.
