School board to fund two additional Carroll County school resource officers; county approves hires

The Carroll County Board of Commissioners granted the sheriff’s office permission to hire two additional school resource officers after the Board of Education committed to cover the positions’ costs.
Chief Deputy Brad Robinson told the board that the school system had asked for more officers following recent national attention to school shootings and that the Board of Education "committed to $87,450 for each officer," which Robinson said would cover salary, benefits and some equipment. Robinson said the two positions would raise the countywide SRO total to 12 across roughly 24 schools.
Commissioners asked whether the new positions would affect broader sheriff’s office manpower and whether the school board’s commitment was long term. Robinson said the sheriff’s office is currently near full staffing and that the department would continue discussions with the school board about ongoing funding. "We’re going to be coming to you guys on staffing analysis... before next budget time to talk about additional deputies if needed," he said.
A motion to approve hiring the two SROs and accepting school-board reimbursement passed unanimously, announced by the chair as 7‑0.
