Council to consider Liberty Bell Trail phase 3 bids, DCNR playground grant and pool engineering contract

Councilwoman Mary Fuller reported Parks & Recreation will ask council in two weeks to prepare and advertise bid specifications for Phase 3 of the Liberty Bell Trail (Moyers Road Park to Wedgwood Park). Fuller said the bids will go out next month pending council approval and that the project would nearly connect the borough’s trail from end to end.
Fuller said the committee will bring a DCNR grant application to council for $250,000 with a 10% local match to fund improvements at York and Susquehanna playground, including new playground equipment, safety surfacing, shade structures, seating, ADA parking and trees. The committee plans to take public comment on the grant when it comes to the business meeting.
On pool work, Fuller said the committee will seek approval to accept the proposal from Aquatic Facility Design Inc. for engineering services for the 4th Street Pool under a contract not to exceed $272,000. She also reported the Whites Road Park pool project has completed demolition, site work and grading and remains on schedule for completion by Memorial Day.
Fuller asked council to vet mural designs from Lansdale Catholic art students proposed for the Whites Road Pool building and to carefully review design choices before final approval.
No formal grant resolution or contract was approved at the work session; council will consider these items at the next business meeting.
