The Flower Mound Environmental Conservation Commission voted to approve Toll Brothers' request to remove three specimen trees in Havenwood Phase 1 during its Feb. 3 meeting.
Developer representative Mike Boswell told commissioners the project team had completed an updated, detailed survey that found 301 specimen trees in phase 1 after additional field work. Boswell also noted the developer secured a release related to remediation at a nearby well site and thanked community stakeholders and staff who helped reach that milestone.
Staff said the phase has positive mitigation credits (reported as about 414 credits after prior mitigation work) and the developer proposed planting 48 mitigation trees within Phase 1; the three trees in question were identified as conflicts with house pads, drainage/barditch requirements or retaining walls.
After public comment, including a suggestion that the developer partner with the Acorns to Oaks program to help restore post oaks, a commissioner moved and the panel voted to approve removal of the three specimen trees. Roll-call votes recorded one nay (Commissioner Takash) and the remainder in favor.
Why it matters: The approval allows the subdivision to proceed with Phase 1 as designed while preserving a large share of the site's trees elsewhere; staff said credits could roll to later phases and that the town will monitor mitigation plantings.
Next steps: Toll Brothers will proceed with Phase 1 subdivision coordination and implement required mitigation (planting and/or credits/payments) as agreed with town staff.
