Flower Mound CDC approves $60,000 one-time 4B boost for Independence Fest 2026

The Flower Mound Community Development Corporation voted unanimously on Jan. 29 to approve a one-time $60,000 increase to the Independence Fest 2026 budget using 4B sales tax revenue.
Parks and events staff described Independence Fest as a two-part event — a morning children’s parade that typically draws about 2,500 people and an evening festival that has drawn 20,000–25,000 attendees in recent years. In presenting the request, staff said: "Our request tonight is to increase the funding ... $60,000 on the event," and that any unspent funds would return to the 4B account.
Staff detailed how the extra money would be used: extend and add shots to the fireworks show, secure additional premier talent for the evening lineup, expand marketing and branding for the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations, purchase event supplies and staff uniforms, and enhance children’s activities in the kids zone. The presenter said the parks team will continue sponsor outreach, work with the Chamber of Commerce and the town’s economic development list, and finalize a sponsorship packet.
The CDC opened and closed the public hearing with no public participants and then approved the budget amendment on a roll-call vote recorded as unanimous. If the Town Council approves the budget amendment at its Feb. 16 meeting, the additional funds will be added to the event budget.
Staff emphasized outreach to businesses and the Chamber of Commerce to underwrite some event costs; they also noted a focus on senior-friendly and family-oriented programming in addition to children’s offerings.
Next steps: the CDC’s approval sends the amendment to the Town Council agenda for Feb. 16 for final budget approval.
