The Okeechobee County Board of County Commissioners accepted a preliminary plat for about 23 acres of land that previously housed a flea market across from Home Depot.
Planning staff said the applicant proposes to subdivide the property into six lots: an eastern lot intended for a church, a central retail lot and three lots along the highway fronting U.S. 441. The applicant has applied for a special exception for the 7‑Eleven site; other uses will require individual site plans and permits.
Jennifer with Group 41 Consulting told commissioners the team is prepared to move forward with building permits and full site plans for Christ Fellowship. County planning staff emphasized this was a plat approval only; detailed site plans, ingress/egress and specific site improvements will be reviewed through subsequent permitting.
The board opened a public hearing, heard one supporter from the congregation, and then accepted the preliminary site plan by voice vote.
Staff said the final site plan and site‑specific engineering will return for subsequent review and any required technical approvals.
