Commission backs Forestwood Middle School track expansion with a tweak for neighbors

Engineers from McAdams presented two layout options and explained that floodplain constraints limited available space and drove some of the encroachment into required compatibility buffers adjacent to about a dozen single‑family backyards. The applicant noted the smaller encroachment areas (one triangle roughly 3 ft at its narrowest and another up to 6 ft at its widest) and said they would plant the required trees and handle any mitigation fees.
Commissioners asked whether the 100‑yard starting area could be located differently to reduce buffer impacts; staff and the applicant said they would explore alternative starting locations. The commission’s recommendation to council included direction that the district consider moving the staggered start away from Lot 26. The motion passed by roll call.
What’s next: The recommendation will move to town council; final approval and any minor technical changes (tree mitigation, buffering) will be handled in the council and final plat process as required.
