Mesquite’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted 6–0 on Aug. 25 to recommend rezoning a half‑acre site at 2801 Motley Drive from service‑station zoning to general retail, a change staff said would allow a potential restaurant with drive‑through on the parcel.
Garrett Lankford presented the request and described the property’s context, noting adjacent retail and recent exterior improvements to a neighboring shopping center. He told commissioners the former tank system had already been removed. “The tanks already have been removed,” staff said in response to a commissioner question about environmental cleanup.
Applicant Mark Cohen of Centerpointe Commercial Properties said the rezoning is intended to help revitalize an aging shopping center and attract new tenants. Cohen described the rezoning as part of a multi-year plan to update the center and spur additional investment.
Commissioner Arnold moved to approve the rezoning, the motion carried 6–0, and staff said the matter will be forwarded to City Council for its Sept. 15 meeting.
