The Ironton City Council on Sept. 12 voted to amend the city’s operating budget, authorize the mayor to solicit bids on a city parcel and adopt a salary resolution for nonunion positions.
The council adopted Ordinance 24-36 (first read by title and then acted on) amending the permanent operating budget for the fiscal year ending 12/31/2024. After discussion about fund balances and encumbrances, the clerk conducted a roll-call vote; the transcript records seven 'Aye' responses and Chair (speaker 1) declared Ordinance 24-36 adopted.
The council then considered amended Ordinance 24-33, described in the packet as authorizing the mayor to advertise for bids and to accept any bid over the minimum bid price of $300,000 for property identified in the transcript as the 'Lost Art property' with parcel numbers 361020511 and 361021700. A motion to adopt passed after a roll-call in which the transcript records one 'No' (recorded as 'Graham') and multiple 'Aye' responses; the chair declared the amended ordinance adopted.
Council also adopted amended Resolution 24-37, identified in the transcript as a salary resolution establishing salaries for nonunion positions. A motion to adopt passed and the clerk recorded multiple affirmative votes in the transcript; the chair declared the resolution passed.
Several procedural and budgetary clarifications were discussed before votes. A council member asked whether continuing current spending would push funds into the red; a staff member said funds were currently in the black but that continued spending patterns could present a challenge next year and suggested reviewing beginning balances and budgeted ending balances to understand the net position. The chair noted that anticipated property sales and CPI projections were part of long-term planning.
The meeting also referred a Palm Alley alley vacation to the Public Utilities Committee (meeting scheduled Oct. 10 at 5:30 p.m.) and closed the business portion of the agenda before taking public comment on other items.
The council then moved to other business, including a staff update on a Green Valley stormwater project and a later motion to enter executive session to discuss possible litigation; no further formal actions on those topics were recorded in the transcript excerpted here.
