The Lennox City Council approved the purchase of a 2026 Ford Interceptor police SUV under the state contract for $47,696 and authorized staff to proceed with the planned outfitting.
City staff presented the request, explaining the vehicle cost and that outfitting (radios, decals and related equipment) would likely add roughly $12,000. Staff said the purchase comes in under the budgeted amount and that the department will move back to Interceptor models from prior Tahoes due to maintenance and warranty concerns.
Chief of Police (Will) described the vehicle-spec tradeoffs and warranty expectations and said the Interceptor package offered advantages over older Tahoe models. "I believe that on this one is gonna be a 3 year, 100,000 mile warranty," he said when discussing warranty options.
A council member moved to approve the purchase, another seconded, and the council conducted a roll-call vote; the motion carried with recorded 'aye' votes from members present.
Staff said the department will repurpose a 2018 interceptor as a fire-department command vehicle (stripped of decals and reconfigured as requested by the fire department) and will surplus other older city vehicles according to standard procedure.
The vehicle will be ordered under state bid, outfitted to specifications and added to fleet rotation once equipment installation and graphics are complete.
