A commissioner who moved the purchase emphasized the health and safety benefits for firefighters and the grant's cancer-risk reduction potential. “It will definitely reduce the cancer risks for our first responders in a very real and practical way,” the commissioner said, noting the department will be able to place a second set of turnout gear in service during decontamination of a primary set.
The city attorney reviewed the grant documents before the purchase was approved. The motion passed on a roll-call vote recorded in the meeting transcript.
