The Mount Clemens City Commission approved a resolution directing the municipal building authority to convey the Ice Arena property back to the city so the site can be sold.
City Manager Shippen explained that the Ice Arena had been deeded in 2019 to the municipal building authority for bond financing and that, when bonds are paid off, title typically reverts to the municipality. "The municipal building authority in Mount Clemens is no longer in existence," Shippen said, citing MCL 123.96 to explain why the commission can direct conveyance and authorize the mayor to sign the quitclaim deed on behalf of the authority.
A commissioner moved to adopt the resolution and the commission approved it by roll-call vote. Shippen said staff believes this is the final administrative step in the matter and that the city would hope to close by the end of the month.
The resolution authorizes Mayor Laura Cropp to sign the attached quitclaim deed on behalf of the former authority; the city attorney prepared and approved the resolution and deed, officials said.
Next step: staff will execute the quitclaim deed as authorized and proceed with the sale process once title is conveyed back to the city.
