Manassas Park asked to join governing board for regional Aviation Academy; superintendent volunteers as rep

District staff told the board that Manassas Park City Schools is working with Manassas City Public Schools, Prince William County Schools and the Manassas Regional Airport to design a regional Aviation Academy that would begin with coursework in grades 8–10 in students’ home divisions and transition grades 11–12 to pathway courses at the airport.
Pam Kelso said the group is developing a governing board to pursue grant opportunities and requested two representatives from each division — one superintendent (or designee) and one school board member — plus the division’s CTE coordinator or director. Kelso said representatives will help define the long-term commitment and role of the governing body and support planning for work-based learning components at the airport.
Superintendent Dr. Saunders volunteered to serve as the superintendent/designee representative from Manassas Park City Schools and the board indicated a school-board representative will be identified and communicated to the coordinating group.
Kelso and board members characterized the effort as a significant step toward building a regional, work-based aviation pathway for students; no formal board action was recorded in the transcript beyond the volunteer and agreement to follow up.
