The Manassas Park City Public Schools board voted to certify its review of the division’s school crisis, emergency management and medical emergency response plan templates for the 2024–25 school year.
“Each school board shall ensure that every school that it supervises develops a written school crisis plan, emergency management, and medical emergency response plan,” Dr. Cross said, summarizing the statutory requirement and explaining that the division’s submission to the board is a template rather than completed campus plans.
Dr. Cross told the board the template omits detailed contact lists and vulnerability assessments so as not to make sensitive security information public. “So what you see tonight that is attached, the plans that you see are it's a template,” Dr. Cross said. He added that the local division designates an emergency manager and that the division annually reviews those written plans and certifies the review to the Virginia Center for School and Campus Safety.
Board members asked no substantive questions before a motion was made to certify the plans. A board member moved to approve certification for the 2024–25 school year, a second was received, and the motion carried on a voice vote with board members responding “Aye.”
The vote completes the board’s annual certification requirement; the superintendent said detailed, school-specific plans are available to the board on request but are not released publicly.
The board moved on to other agenda items after the certification vote.
