Council proclaims Transgender Day of Visibility; personal testimonies draw broad support

Councilmember Olivia Hill introduced RS2024-327 recognizing March 31 as Transgender Day of Visibility in Nashville and Davidson County. Hill, who identified her experience and perspective on the council floor, spoke about visibility and resilience in the transgender community and urged colleagues to stand in solidarity.
"Transgender Day of Visibility is a day to recognize the resilience and sheer bravery of a trans community and what we go through to just be our true authentic self," Hill said. Several colleagues — including Councilmembers Ewing, Huffman, Coopin, Porterfield and others — rose to offer support and to note the importance of recognition in a month that also marks Women's History Month.
The council invoked rule 12.3 to list affirmative voters as cosponsors and took a roll‑call vote; the motion passed with strong support and the resolution will be reflected in council records as adopted.
