On March 19 the Metropolitan Council approved four resolutions—RS2024-293, RS2024-294, RS2024-295 and RS2024-296—granting exemptions from minimum distance requirements for short‑term rental permits at separate addresses on 28th Avenue North.
Councilmember Robert Taylor, sponsor of the consolidated items, described the locations as adjacent to I‑40 and somewhat removed from active park play areas: "These properties are right beside I‑40, and right across the street from Hadley Park... I feel very comfortable with moving forward with this." Chair Bradford noted he would be recorded as a no on the items.
Votes on each resolution were taken individually using the council’s voting machines. The tallies reported were:
- RS2024-293 (1008 28th Ave N): 30 in favor, 2 against, 1 abstention. - RS2024-294 (1010 28th Ave N): 30 in favor, 2 against, 2 abstentions. - RS2024-295 (1012 28th Ave N): 30 in favor, 2 against, 3 abstentions. - RS2024-296 (1014 28th Ave N): 31 in favor, 2 against, 2 abstentions.
Sponsors characterized the waivers as appropriate given the properties’ distance from active park areas; at least one member cited constituency concerns in recording a no vote.
