A company proposed a telemedicine (text-based) service for Mesquite residents that would have shown as a roughly $9 opt‑out fee on water and utility bills, City Manager Cliff told a town hall audience. Staff worried that residents might overlook such an opt‑out charge, especially during summer months when utility bills are higher, so the council has not taken further action.
Cliff said the council has learned of multiple providers offering similar services and that, if directed, the city would issue a request for proposals to evaluate alternatives rather than proceed with the initial vendor. “If we do get direction from the city council to move forward, it’s something that we would go out for an RFP,” he said.
No decision was made at the town hall; Cliff encouraged residents who have concerns to contact their council member. Any implementation would require council direction and subsequent procurement steps.
