Gilmer County Schools board approves publication of proposed levy rates

Ginger, the district's clerk/staff member who presented the item, said the schedule uses assessed values from the county assessor and the levy rates set by the legislature. "That shows a total assessed value of a little over 423,000,000," she said, projecting "in our regular levy to be about 2,500,000" and "in the excess levy a little over $1,000,000." Ginger told the board the schedule will be sent to the state auditor and the State Board of Education for review and returned to the district for finalization.
A board member moved to approve the publication in accordance with West Virginia Code 11-20-36 and West Virginia Code 59-3-1 and to comply with West Virginia Department of Education policy; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The board recorded no roll-call tallies in the transcript, and the chair stated "motion carries."
Publishing the proposed schedule begins the formal notice process; the districts must publish and then finalize the levy paperwork at the subsequent meeting (scheduled April 15). The board will act on any adjustments after the state auditor and State Board of Education review the filing.
