Mesquite council certifies Nov. 4 election results and swears in winners

The Mesquite City Council on [date of meeting] unanimously approved a resolution canvassing the Nov. 4, 2025 general election and formally declared the winners for mayor and five council seats.

City Secretary read the official canvas showing Daniel Oliman Jr. won the mayoral race with 7,095 votes (67.59%), and council candidates in Places 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 were declared elected. No candidate received a majority for City Council Place 4; the council ordered a runoff election for Dec. 13, 2025 to decide that seat. The city also reported turnout figures for Dallas and Kaufman counties and noted that City of Mesquite Proposition A (a proposed ad valorem tax rate of 73 cents per $100) failed with 57.49% voting against.

Mayor Daniel Aleman and newly elected councilmembers were sworn in during the meeting and offered short remarks. In his remarks, Mayor Aleman said his priorities for the new term include infrastructure and neighborhood street repairs, strengthening public safety, economic development focused on revitalizing key corridors including Towne East, and programs to support families, seniors and youth. Several councilmembers also stressed pavement and road maintenance as an urgent issue and emphasized collaboration with residents.

The council convened later for agenda business; the certified canvass passed on a 7-0 vote. The city directed staff to post information online about the scheduled runoff and to share election resources at www.cityofmesquite.com/elections.
