Mesquite council awards $33 million LaPrada Drive contract; county to reimburse $8.4 million

The Mesquite City Council on Dec. 1 approved a contract authorizing the 2025 LaPrada Drive paving, drainage and utility improvements (Motley Drive to Pinehurst Lane) with a unanimous 7–0 vote.
Staff read Bid No. 2025-186 and identified McMahon Contracting LP as the recommended contractor for the project in the amount of approximately $33,000,930. Public Works Director Eric Hall told the council the work includes substantial underground utility work and will take roughly two years, with contractor mobilization expected in late January or early February and completion anticipated in 2027.
Councilmember Green asked to pull the item from the consent agenda for discussion because of the project’s size; council members thanked staff for bringing the project forward and noted residents in the LaPrada area have long awaited the improvements. Councilmember Rodriguez Ross asked about the completion date and county participation; Hall confirmed the city will front payment and be reimbursed by the county for about $8.4 million.
The motion to approve the contract was made by Councilmember Green and seconded by Councilmember Rodriguez Ross; the motion passed unanimously.
What happens next: staff will complete contract execution paperwork (estimated 4–6 weeks, potentially a little longer due to the holiday season) and the contractor is expected to mobilize in late January or early February to begin construction.
