Onalaska High School TechEd and gym additions near completion, board hears

Contractors and district staff updated the board on progress at Onalaska High School's 15,000 square‑foot TechEd/music addition and gym expansions. Marty Koenig, identified in the transcript as a representative of Prowler and Hammer, said, "When this addition is complete, the metals lab, woods lab and band rooms will all have doubled in size, creating a much greater learning space for the students of Onalaska." He described completed footings and foundation walls, masonry on the elevator shaft, precast panels, roof joists and the enclosure and roofing of two gym additions.

Board members and staff displayed photos and praised the work. One board member said the new bleachers make the field house look "like a brand new field house," and staff noted the bleachers will be operable by button for custodial convenience. Contractors reported that flooring work and mechanical/MEP rough‑ins are under way and that the sidewalk connecting student parking to the front doors was recently poured; contractors indicated an anticipated sequencing of upcoming tasks that would allow parts of the project to open incrementally.

District staff said the gym additions and parts of the new student services areas are expected to be operational in the weeks after the upcoming break, with some elements (mezzanine, student section) to be finished later in the winter. The board was told that weather remains a scheduling risk for exterior finishes, and staff said IT and systems switching (computers/phones) will be a near‑term step before spaces go fully live.
