The Onalaska School Board examined progress on its strategic plan Feb. 24, focusing on Pillar 2 (communication and family engagement) and Pillar 3 (recruitment, development and retention). Administrators described steps such as quarterly community newsletters, grade‑level family engagement events to replace one large open house, and vouchers to boost family participation in conferences.
District administrators also presented a staff pulse check tied to Pillar 3. The board was told two staff-survey metrics had improved: a reported employee-satisfaction score rose from 3.84 to 4.06, and engagement/professional-development scores moved from 3.95 to 4.3. District leaders highlighted actions such as resilient‑learner positions, pilot instructional resources and ongoing professional development and said they were refining evaluation systems for support and hourly staff.
Board members discussed communication expectations (including expectations for PowerSchool entries), the importance of meaningful family engagement and planned a community survey in March or early April to measure progress. The board also reviewed next steps for superintendent interviews and community forums tied to the superintendent search, scheduled for early March.
