The Onalaska School Board on Feb. 24 approved a proposed choir and orchestra trip to New York City for spring 2026 after a presentation from the music program’s organizer.
Presenter Richard Moses described a tentative March 26–April 1 itinerary that would include festival performances at Riverside Church, museum visits, several Broadway shows, a memorial visit and a dinner cruise. Moses told the board organizers project between 160 and 200 students with 20–25 chaperones and said the trip will travel by bus; he added the WorldStrides festival arrangements include performance adjudication and an awards ceremony.
Organizers gave a preliminary per‑student estimate and told the board they were "working towards the lower end" of estimated costs. Administrators said they expect the out‑of‑pocket cost to be close to $1,700 per student and outlined planned fundraising—candy‑bar sales, individual fundraisers, donation letters and festival work shifts—to reduce individual costs.
A motion to approve the trip request was moved and seconded (motion recorded as by Tracy, seconded by Brian) and the board approved the request on a voice vote. Administrators said additional logistical details (final chaperone counts, exact cost and bus arrangements) will be finalized as planning continues and that the program will run fundraisers to help families offset expenses.
