Petitioner Alexandra Ezell told the board she and her husband, Mike, and their extended family are asking that their home — a five‑acre parcel on the far east side of the district — be redistricted into Auburndale to ensure their children can attend in‑district schools and because they value smaller class sizes and the community feel. “We are requesting a change in the school district boundaries,” Ezell said in her public comment, adding that one child already attends Auburndale through open enrollment and the family hopes the district will continue to accept their other children.
District staff then reviewed statutory factors the board must consider and provided travel‑time comparisons. The administrator told the board the residence is about 9.1 miles (roughly 16 minutes) from Auburndale Elementary versus about 4.4 miles (eight minutes) to Kennedy Elementary in the Stevens Point area, and noted longer one‑way drives for later grades to the Stevens Point middle/high campus. The administrator said those metrics and the neighborhood context did not present a statutory reason to deny the petition.
After brief questions from board members about the parcel size, neighboring homes, and whether additional acreage might be transferred in the future, a board member moved to adopt a resolution granting the petition and attaching the described parcel to the Auburndale School District. The motion was seconded and passed on a roll‑call vote, with affirmative responses recorded for Scott, Mike, Sue, Kayla and the chair. The board announced the resolution "passed."
The petition was filed in the board packet by Mark and Lisa Totten and Mike and Alexandra Ezell; the approved action will become part of the district’s boundary records. The board closed the public hearing before taking the vote and moved on to other business.
