The Rangeley Budget Committee voted Feb. 26 to recommend funding levels for two municipal service lines and to continue reviewing capital items.
A member moved and the committee seconded a recommendation of $509,233 for sanitary sewers; the motion passed unanimously. Later the committee recommended $550,425 for the public works transfer station for the coming year; that motion also passed unanimously.
Committee members reviewed capital purchases and reserve-account policy and asked the town manager to update capital pages and cost estimates for several items (including a town office roof quote and Parks & Recreation entries) before the next meeting. Town Manager Joe clarified that the 10-year capital plan is a planning document and that reserve accounts provide spending flexibility — placing money in a reserve does not automatically obligate the town to purchase a listed item without a future vote.
Members also discussed a stale procurement note about multi-year lead times for specialized equipment (fire trucks) and were told that pandemic-era supply-chain delays have eased but that some lead time still applies for certain orders.
The committee adjourned after making the recommendations and scheduling follow-up work; additional capital purchases will return for vote with updated material.
