The Edmond Public Schools Board voted to award a $1,590,556.36 contract for millwork and interior renovations at Charles Haskell Elementary and to approve several related bond-funded facility projects and furniture purchases during its March meeting.
Staff told the board the Charles Haskell work includes approximately 30 classrooms and commons areas and that the bid totals were "spot on for our budget." After a motion and second, the board carried the measure on a roll-call vote.
The board also approved a ceiling and LED light replacement and marquee work at Russell Doherty, Northern Hills and Chisholm elementary schools (approximately $299,947, to be paid from bond funds), authorized flooring drawings and bidding for Angie DeBoe and Washington Irving elementaries, and approved a furniture purchase for Post Oak Elementary and the Transition Academy under the OU Board of Regents contract. Staff said the Post Oak furniture cost was roughly 25% higher than previous orders but within expectations.
During consent-agenda discussion, board members pulled items including encumbrances and athletic camps. The board approved the encumbrances after staff explained an $840 charge related to multiple false alarms and described steps with the City of Edmond to avoid future fees. The board approved athletic camps, clinics and leagues for 2026 and a separate auditorium/sound-system/seating item intended to be completed before graduation.
The board agreed to end the district's partnership with Genesis Project effective March 2, 2026, after being notified that the Oklahoma Department of Human Services will no longer place students at Genesis. Staff said one employee affected by the change has been reassigned.
After returning from executive session, the board approved several personnel recommendations. The superintendent recommended Lauren Clark as principal for Chisholm Elementary; that recommendation passed although one member recorded a "no" vote. The board also approved recommendations for principals at Russell Duarte and assistant principals at Edmond Santa Fe and Edmond Memorial high schools, and subsequently moved multiple renewals for coordinators, directors and the district administrative team for 2026-27.
The meeting concluded after the board approved the remaining agenda items and adjourned.
