Committee adopts amendment and reports bill that would eliminate several tax filing discounts

"The Department of Revenue estimates SB 164 could raise nearly $500,000 a year for the state," Merrick said, adding the revenue could be directed toward capital projects and public safety.
The committee opened public testimony and none was offered. A committee member moved to adopt Conceptual Amendment No. 1 to change the effective date in section 6 to July 1, 2026; the amendment was adopted without objection. The same member then moved to report SB 164 from committee with individual recommendations and an attached fiscal note; the motion passed by voice vote with no objections and the committee granted legislative legal authority to make technical and conforming changes.
The action marks a procedural step that sends the amended bill forward with a fiscal note attached; the committee did not take a roll-call vote during the hearing. The sponsor said staff will complete paperwork and the committee recessed briefly to sign documents before moving on to other agenda items.
