The Homewood City Finance Committee discussed progress and outreach on a citizen petition seeking consideration of a city manager during its June 3 meeting.
The chair said the committee had 288 signatures on site and expected additional batches from residents Beverly Labeouf, Margaret Hyde and Lindsay Chitwood, and that the group has reached 299 signatures after recent collections. The committee estimated the threshold at "around 550," and agreed signatures must be validated before submission to probate court, noting the city would validate all signatures at once rather than piecemeal.
A committee member noted residents who have moved into Homewood must have voted in a recent municipal election to count for validation; the committee discussed using the city's Everbridge text system and the city website to circulate an informational form. "I think official city messaging about the form, which is educational, would be good," the committee member said.
Members urged careful wording for any official outreach. The committee also said it planned two informational forums — one starting the next day and a lunchtime forum on Friday, June 14 — and asked staff to keep a prominent notice on the city's homepage and to coordinate with local coverage such as the Homewood Star.
The committee carried the petition item forward for continued discussion and validation work; no formal action to accept or reject the petition was taken at the meeting.
