Council reauthorizes incentive policy to remain eligible for tax abatements, adds target industries

The City Council voted 7‑0 to reauthorize and update the city’s incentive policy to remain eligible for tax abatement agreements. Jason Moore said state rules require either readoption or updates periodically in order for the city to offer tax abatements.
Moore said the updated policy adds additional target industries, specifically calling out higher education, sports medicine, media and digital arts, and adds options for downtown programs that were discussed with the downtown subcommittee. “The changes that we made include adding additional target industries,” Moore said, and presented the council strategic goals that align with the incentive policy.
Council had no public speakers on the item; after the presentation the hearing closed and a motion to approve passed unanimously.
What’s next: The readopted incentive policy remains on file and will be used to evaluate future tax‑abatement requests and economic‑development incentives.
