Livonia Fire and Rescue asked the council to authorize a sole‑source appropriation from budgeted funds to rebuild the engine in Fire Engine 3 after a mechanical failure earlier in August. The fire department representative said the work is a rebuild for a 2016 Pierce truck and that "the cost to rebuild this engine is $31,006.58 and 21¢," noting that a new truck would cost roughly $897,000 and have a multi‑year lead time. Staff said the rebuilt vehicle would move to reserve status once replaced and that the department expects a quick turnaround from the vendor.
The department of assessment brought a proposed lot split for property south of 8 Mile Road west of Merriman in the north quarter section 320100, requesting a waiver of the width‑to‑depth ratio to split a roughly 2.4‑acre parcel into two parcels about 82 feet wide by 630 feet deep. Staff said the reconfiguration cleans up a blighted house and matches neighboring lot patterns; council approved the waiver on consent and asked petitioners to coordinate final drainage plans with engineering.
Engineering staff recommended awarding a contract to Superior Excavating to improve rear yard drainage on Fairway Drive (and an alternate on Puritan Avenue) in the amount of $173,440; staff said the work would benefit 10 homes on Fairway and 6 homes on Puritan and aimed to start construction and finish by early November. The council approved the contract on consent.
