The Wicomico County Board of Education voted to accept the superintendent's recommendation and authorize Scheibel Construction to provide construction-manager-at-risk (CMR) services for the Fruitland Intermediate HVAC upgrade.
Dr. Reger explained the board previously approved the project scope and selection used a two-step CMR selection process. Today's approval allows the selected CMR firm to begin preconstruction work, prepare trade bids and establish a guaranteed maximum price; the project is anticipated to begin summer 2026 and finish summer 2027 while using eight on-site swing classrooms during the school year.
The motion to approve was moved and seconded from the dais and passed by roll-call; members recorded aye votes and Chair Malone announced the item approved.
Why it matters: the CMR approach is intended to expedite preconstruction planning and pricing while allowing the district to manage schedule and site impacts during school operations.
Next steps: administration and legal counsel will finalize contract documents consistent with the RFP terms and, if required, submit materials to the Interagency Committee (IAC) for approval.
