Board unanimously approves Old Salem AACA downtown cruise‑in after club presentation

The Town of Kernersville Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to allow the Old Salem chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America to hold its 16th annual downtown cruise‑in on Main Street this summer.

Crystal Tanner, who said she represents the Old Salem chapter and lives on Kernersville Road, told the board the cruise‑in traditionally runs on the second Saturday from June through October, staging on Main Street from Railroad Street to Harmon, with streets closed about 3 p.m. and the event starting at 4 p.m. She said streets generally re‑open by about 7 p.m. while cleanup continues and emphasized organizers ask participants not to park on the closed streets before 3 p.m.

Tanner described the event’s fundraising model — sponsor support, bake sales and a 50/50 raffle — and said the club has donated more than $17,000 to local organizations over the last decade. She acknowledged a petition from roughly 25 downtown businesses asking that the event be relocated or moved to Sundays, but told the board organizers had evaluated alternatives (the farmers market area and Mountain Street) and favored Main Street for atmosphere and logistics. Tanner also said some petition signers were not open on Saturdays and had not experienced recent cruise‑in events.

After the presentation, Alderman Thompson moved to approve the club’s request; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously.

The board’s approval covers the date and closure proposal presented; staff or organizers may need to return with any final traffic control or permit details required by town regulations.
